Rochester and Rochester Hills are a long commute from Detroit, and if you plan on working out of the city, you may want to consider relocating to a closer suburb. That being side, if you don’t mind the distance, and a commute that will feature traffic along I 75, then Rochester is a very nice place to live compared to the other suburbs of Detroit. The Downtown areas of Detroit are always stop-and-go, but once you get out past where I 94 meets I 75, things may start getting a little better. I 94 Eastbound is particularly bad, but as a commuter to and from Rochester, you’ll be avoiding it. Keep in mind that Detroit is consistently ranked as one of the worst cities for commuters by Forbes every year.

Being a town of 12,000 people, Rochester has somewhat limited options for daily recreation. The Meadow Brook Theatre is a small community theatre with frequent plays and performances put on, and the Meadow Brook Hall is a beautiful home from the early 1900s, is over 88,000 square feet, not only well-maintained, but its holiday decorations and displays make it a must to visit each holiday season. The Fieldstone Winery is a laid-back winery for a wine tasting. In Rochester there are also numerous gyms, a skate park, art galleries, and a few pubs,but otherwise, you may want to take the 40-minute trip into Detroit if you want lots of variety.
