UM College Park is represented by just about every form of public transportation you could ask for. It has a station for service on the MARC train, a stop on the Washington DC subway system, and bus service to areas that are both right around the block and scattered throughout the Baltimore/DC area. And I’ve noticed recently that there are bike racks everywhere--in front of class buildings, residence halls, public transit stations, and all over campus. It’s nice to see the school do this, because when the weather’s nice there isn’t a cheaper or more enjoyable way of commuting than bicycling.

It only makes sense that in a place like College Park, which becomes flooded with students every August, there are a lot of vacant apartments that may not be in the best shape but make up for it with their affordability. And the neighboring areas throw their hats into the housing ring too, offering apartments of their own and competing with College Park for leases. I can’t justify giving you the name of one individual town or city and telling you that you’ll find the best deal there, because the local areas are all pretty comparable with their pricing and you’ll be able to find steals anywhere you look if you’re patient enough. I’ll simply say that there are housing options for any type of budget, whether you’re roughing it at a couple hundred a month or splurging with a generous budget.
