Boston’s commuter rail routes extend far beyond the city’s metropolitan area, and there are stations for the Haverhill Line in both nearby Andover and Lawrence. Students generally use the commuter rail on the weekend when they want to get to Boston. Some go down just for the day and eat at Quincy Market or catch a Red Sox game, while others make a weekend out of it and stay with friends in the city. The commuter rail is also useful if you have an internship or job in Boston. Locally, the MVRTA runs buses in North Andover if you need them, but the campus is fairly small and everything is within walking distance.

Andover’s a solid reputation in all levels of education. Phillips Academy Andover is considered one of the best high schools in the country, if not the world. And Merrimack College meets the Boston area’s high standards for post-secondary universities. This part of the country is regarded as having the best colleges in America, and U.S. News & World Report named Merrimack the 8th best in the Northeast in 2012. This is an incredible honor when you consider all the other schools in the region (Harvard, MIT, Dartmouth, the list goes on). The Princeton Review also named it one of the best schools in the region, and Forbes has it ranked on its list of America’s Top Colleges.
