Brandeis University and Bentley University, located in Waltham, both have very low crime rates. However, Brandeis has a slightly safer campus. In a list of the Waltham neighborhoods with the lowest annual crime, Brandeis’ campus ranks fifth lowest, and Bentley is eighth lowest. For students who are concerned about crime and safety when looking for off-campus pads, you should look towards the Beaver Brook Station neighborhood, as well as Kingston and Piety Corner.
Traffic & Commuting

The most convenient way for Brandeis students to commute to Boston is via the school’s stop on the city’s commuter rail system. It’s just a short ride to the city, and no driving is required. However, for students who are commuting to school or to Boston, Route 128 runs to the west of campus, and if you follow it for less than a mile you have access to Interstates 90 and 95 as well. These major roads can be very backed up during rush hour (which off-campus students should take into account when planning their schedule), but overall they’re convenient for students who want to live off-campus but don’t want a tough commute.
