New Orleans is an hour drive away from Southeastern Louisiana University, but Amtrak provides train service between SLU’s campus in Hammond and New Orleans. The ride takes a couple hours longer than driving, but makes up for it in convenience. As for local transit, the campus and town of Hammond are both very small and manageable. Bikes and campus shuttles are the best option for students looking to get around, whether it’s to and from classes or from their rental to campus.
