Tourism is a big part of the economy here, since New Orleans is one of the top 10 most visited cities in the US. The maritime industry is also huge, as well as higher learning, since New Orleans is a bustling port city with over 50,000 students enrolled in its various local colleges. The number one employed is the Ochsner Health System, followed by Tulane University and the Acme Truck Line.

Considering Hurricane Katrina, it’s important to keep in mind the possibility of a devastating hurricane. Winters are short and pretty mild, and the humid summers with temps up the 90s get a fair amount of rain. October sees the least amount of rain. It only snows every few years here.
