Traffic on 380, even during rush hour, is usually not bad at all. Highway 6 can get slightly slowed at times. Traffic congestion is fairly rare in Iowa City, unless winter weather conditions make the roads dangerous. It is not like other big cities where everyone is stuck red light by red light, and trips in and out of Iowa City are easygoing. About 6% of the population of Iowa City utilizes public transportation, and a good amount choose to bike and walk, which have increased by 4% and 6% in the past decade. Iowa City is cyclist- and pedestrian-friendly.

The University of Iowa is a big party school, and in 2012, it was ranked the #2 best Party School in the nation by the Princeton Review, which UI officials obviously aren’t too happy about. Students, however, love the number of house parties and local bars, though some admit there is a bit of a binge-drinking problem. About 10% of men at UI are in a frat, and 15% of women are in a sorority. Some of the most popular local bars include Sports Column, Brother’s, Airliner, 808, Fieldhouse, Micky’s, etc. Everyone loves the hookah bar called Red Poppy, and even bigger is Hala Hala Hookah on Gilbert Street. Studio 13 is the local gay bar, complete with male dancers, gogo dancers, drag nights, and contests. The Deadwood Tavern is the biggest townie bar with a wide mix of middle-aged men and women, drop-out types, and sloppy undergrads. A night there can quickly turn bizarre.
