Ashford University has a pretty safe campus. There are only a couple burglaries a year on campus, but there have been a handful of sex offenses in recent years. There are 24/7 police patrols, free late-night transport services, and emergency phones throughout the campus. The crime index in Clinton is much higher than average, however. Only 13% of cities in Iowa have a higher crime rate. While hate crimes don’t happen in Clinton, there are much more burglaries, thefts, rapes, and assaults than in your average city.

Clinton, Iowa is home to many historic landmarks and buildings. Among them is the Van Allen Building, though it is currently amid a remodel of the interior and not currently open. The Clinton County Courthouse, the Clinton Public Library, the Howes and Arkeny Buildings, and the St. Iranaeus Church are all historic, though none are particularly intriguing unless you are an architecture or history buff. An arboretum, or tree museum, is free and home to hundreds of rare trees, if you’re into that. Otherwise, the only other local attraction would be the Children’s Discovery Center, which is geared toward small children. For college-aged adults, there is a casino and some movie theaters, but otherwise you’ll have to hit up the dive bars for some fun.
