Any SCAD student would be adamant that safety on campus is excellent: the security team is always on watch, and IDs are required in every building. But they would also tell you that once you step outside of campus into the city, and that many of the streets nearby are shady and should be avoided at night. And it’s true; there are high levels of crime near campus and in the surrounding communities. The safest places for students to live are north of campus in Downtown or the North Historic District. Otherwise, they should look further out in places like Richfield/Liberty City or Midtown.

Savannah’s traffic grid is pretty pesky--this city just wasn’t designed for rush hour traffic. Hopefully you’ll be able to figure out some shortcuts and sideroads after you get used to the route to class. But there’s good news: SCAD’s campus is only a mile from Interstate 16, and parking at the school is usually pretty easy. If you don’t want to drive, however, there are buses that are free for students with an ID and bike racks all over campus for students who prefer two wheels over four.
