Southern Fort Collins is generally the part of the city with the lowest annual crime. It contains the three safest neighborhoods: Southbridge Greens, Southwest Frontage Road (near Hat-Field) and South Shields/West Harmony. Most of the communities that directly surround CSU’s campus have higher crime rates than average; many students live nearby so they can be within walking distance, but it’s not worth it if you don’t feel safe walking home after class at night. If you’re looking for safe areas, the western part of the city (Bellvue) and northern part (Giddings) also have low crime.

Colorado State University’s prices for parking permits vary depending on the student. Off-campus students usually pay around $70 less than students in residence halls ($234 compared to $303). However, if students live in the school’s University Village or Aggie Village, the permits are free. These are both nearby neighborhoods that focus on community and an off-campus apartment living style (even though the school owns both). If you want to move out of the dorms, I would highly recommend checking out these two village areas. It’s a great place to meet friends, have your own place, and experience the school’s diversity (there are students from over 60 countries in University Village).
