UC Santa Barbara’s nightlife has gained national attention thanks to the Princeton Review and Playboy (trust me, I know how weird it is to mention those two publications in the same sentence). The most infamous detail about the nightlife is how the school has its own beach, and many of the weekend parties take place there. But there have also been rooftop, deck, and balcony parties where a DJ spins from high up and a crowd of students gathers on the streets below. There are plenty of Greek and house parties, and for a more controlled setting, the downtown area has some of the best bars and clubs for students in SoCal. There’s no doubt about it: UCSB is one of the best party schools in the U.S.

When someone in Santa Barbara says that every day in the summer is sunny, they’re not generalizing at all. During the summer months here, the city gets less than 0.1 inches of rain. Crazy, right? You would think that with so much sun and such little rain the temperatures would be unbearably hot, but it’s actually the opposite. With the Mediterranean climate here, the temperatures in the summer regularly stay in the 70s. During an especially hot stretch, it’ll jump up to the 80s. The best part about the local climate is definitely the winters. The temperature only drops about ten degrees from the summer to the winter, as it stays in the 60s through the “coldest” months. Sure, this the rainy season, but it’s dramatically better than winters in other parts of the county.
