When students register for Riverside City College, they are charged a transportation fee. This allows them to use the Riverside Transit Agency’s services like buses and trolleys to get to class. But the best part is, as an off-campus student, your student transit access can take you to downtown on the weekends, to the grocery store when you need to stock up on food, or to friends’ homes when you have free time. You can’t waive the transportation fee, so you might as well embrace it and use the city’s plentiful public transit resources to your advantage.

The main campus of RCC is located in one of the most expensive parts of Riverside. In fact, the neighborhood (City College) was ranked the eighth most expensive in an annual ranking. Magnolia Avenue, located directly west of the campus, was tenth on that list, and Alessandro Boulevard/Chicago Ave to the southeast took the top spot. If you want to live close enough to campus that you can walk, you’re going to have to pay a high price for it. But with the prevalence of public transportation in the city, and especially for college students, being close to campus isn’t worth the price tags. I would recommend finding affordable housing elsewhere in the city, and even though it means a longer commute, it’ll be worth it.
