Crime & Safety

Crime & Safety

San Francisco is safer than most major cities in the US but it has its good and bad like anywhere else. The Potrero District area has a high crime ratre . A lot of cell phone muggings take place in San Francisco, especially around Market Street, so take care if you take your cell phone out. Bayview and Tenderloin are definitely not good areas, as well as the Western Addition area. In Tenderloin, tourists are often mugged. Tenderloin is certainly the worst part of San Fran for crime, and Haight and Mission are two other areas to avoid if you want to feel safe. The City College is not located in a particularly bad area, and crime is extremely rare on campus, with maybe three or four thefts a year.

Apartment Costs

Apartment Costs

Ricky Salinas - Property Manager

San Francisco is an expensive place to live. A one-bedroom costs at least 1200/month, with many as much as $2500/month. Even studios are thousands per month. Unlike most suggestions for college rooming, choosing more roommates doesn’t make your rent lower; it just means a bigger living space, which is more costly. You are better off not living in the heart of San Francisco if price is a factor for you. CCSF has a few resources for students seeking housing in the area.
