Bakersfield has around 350,000 residents, of which 56.8% are White, 8.2% are Black, 6.2% are Asian, 1.5% are Native American, and 22% are Other. About 46% of the population is Hispanic or Latino, and of that group, 40% are Mexican, and 2% are Salvodoran. At Bakersfield College, the staff is mainly White, and of the 253 contract faculty, 75% are White. Around 15,000 students attend this college, of which nearly 75% are under age 25. About 60% of students are female and 40% are male. Around 44% of students are Hispanic, 39% are White, 6.5% are Black, and 6.3% are Asian. American Indians account for 1.5%, and other/unknown, for nearly 4%. Most students are part-time.
Nightlife

Bakersfield has an active nightlife. There are several dance clubs, like Club Odyssey, the Sky Bar & Lounge, and the Casablanca Night Club, which seems to be in business solely because it is the only gay bar in town. For karaoke, try Trout’s, or the Wright Place. The Firehouse has a ton of pool tables, but other than that, doesn’t have many good features. Some great places to hear live music include Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace, the Rabobank Arena, Ethel’s Old Corral, and La Movida. Some of the best bars in the area are McMurphy’s, The Mint, Lengthwise, and Sandrini’s.
