West Village ApartmentsGuidesWest Village Proper Description
This area is from West 14th below to Houston and from the Hudson River over to Seventh Ave South or Varick. The beauty of this area makes it worth it to be a bit further from subways. You will get lost here as there is no grid like most of Manhattan. The streets all intertwine and there are many cobblestone streets that make you feel like you are not in "modern" NYC anymore.
Many townhouses, brownstones and private federal row houses line the streets, with sprinkles of pre and post war luxury buildings as well as a few new developments as well. The area has even developed a smaller enclave known as the "meatpacking" district from Little West 12th north to West 14th Street.
Local hotspots such as long standard "Pastis" and the original Gansevoort Hotel, have also seen new spots such as The Standard enter the arena and this area really comes alive for the after-work crowd in addition to the high profile and celebrity watching crowd. There are many rooftop or outdoor venues and too many great restaurants to name in this area.
Favorite streets include Morton, Perry, Charles, Little West 12th, Charles Lane (find that!) and of course, Horatio St. There are tons more for you to explore and fall in love with as well.
When you think "Sex in the City", you are thinking Magnolia's and the West Village indeed!
