Public Transportation

Public Transportation

There are a number of ways to get around in Seattle without having to drive a vehicle. There are three public transit systems that serve the city, providing access to express buses, trolleybuses, commuter rail, light rail, and ferries. Also, CNBC rated Seattle as the fourth most walkable city in the nation. Add in a flourishing bicycling scene, and you have a number of public transit options. Mayor Michael McGinn has shown his support to public transportation, and will help cut the city’s reliance on driving in the future.

Renter Friendly

Renter Friendly

Kathy Sutherland - Real Estate Agent

In 2010, 15,000 more Seattle residents were property renters than owners. The percentage of renters here in the city nearly doubles the U.S. average. Because renting is so popular, there is a relatively low vacancy rate, meaning it may be difficult to find the perfect apartment here. However, it will definitely pay off when you do, as Seattle is extremely renter friendly.

Section 8 & Affordable

Section 8 & Affordable

For Section 8 listings, the Seattle Housing Authority conveniently puts rental listings right on its website. Also, they distribute a quarterly newsletter called Pathways, which shares resources and services for voucher-holders. The website also hosts information about eligibility, leasing, rights and requirements, and has a program overview and frequently asked questions section. Although there aren’t many, if any, Section 8 programs in good shape right now, this is one of the more organized and helpful around.

Recreation

Recreation

Are you a sports fan? If so, you’ll fit in perfectly here, as the city has its own NFL and MLB squads, as well as a surprisingly popular MLS team. If you’re not into sports, there is a thriving music scene here. This isn’t anything new, as Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, and Foo Fighters are from the city. Now, bands such as Death Cab for Cutie and Fleet Foxes are emerging from the local indie scene, and you can see the next big Seattle acts in any of the city’s great venues. There are also great nightclubs and lounges in the area, with Belltown, Pioneer Square, and Fremont being popular places.
