For a city, Virginia Beach has a very low public transit ridership, as only less than one percent of residents in the city use it every day to commute to work. There are proposals for a high speed rail to be built in Virginia, as well as an extension to the city on The Tide light rail in Norfolk, but right now there aren’t many public transportation options. The majority of V.B. residents (92.4%) drive a vehicle to work every day. To get to Virginia’s Eastern Shore, commuters take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, which is the largest bridge-tunnel complex in the world. The average commute time to work (one way) for the average resident is 25 minutes.

The park space and beaches that attract tourists to Virginia Beach from around the world is accessible to city residents any day of the year. There are 35 miles of coastline here, and three public beaches that each have a different personality. There is also the city’s famous boardwalk, which is three miles long and has great restaurants, shops, and entertainment. As if this all isn’t enough, Virginia Beach has 4,000 acres of park space, and 210 parks, that are open to the public. There is also the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, which is 8,000 acres of forest, wildlife, and nature. If you decide to rent in Virginia Beach, you will undoubtedly spend much of your time outside.
