The Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority offers a number of different affordable housing programs for people looking to rent apartments in the city. The Housing Choice Voucher Program, which was formerly known as the Section 8 Housing Program, provides renters with affordable rent by subsidizing a percentage of their rent. The city also offers a Moderate Rehabilitation Program to help residents that need assisted housing to either find housing or subsidize their rent in existing assisted housing as rent rises. Overall, Alexandria tries to offer eligible residents with as much assistance as possible so that they can live in the city.
Recreation

As a major city just outside of Washington DC, it is no surprise that Alexandria has a number of recreation facilities and nightlife activities. The city has 950 acres of land specifically for parks and recreation centers. The Cameron Run Regional Park has a public water park equipped with water slides, a wave pool, a mini golf course, and batting cages. Chinquapin, the city’s largest recreation facility, offers a swimming pool, tennis and racquetball courts, and a number of other sports fields and courts. There are also ten dog parks and dog runs throughout the city, many of which are located within larger parks to offer activities for both dogs and people. Alexandria boasts a number of clubs, sports bars, and pubs for nighttime activities, offering a variety of activities for any resident.
