Many of San Antonio’s best restaurants are located on its well-known Riverwalk. Gourmet Magazine named Biga on the Banks one of the five best restaurants in Texas, and Esquire Magazine selected Boudro’s Texas Bistro as one of the 50 best restaurants in the U.S. Other great restaurants along the Riverwalk are the Chart House, Landry’s Seafood House, and Little Rhein Steakhouse. Of course, there are great restaurants scattered throughout San Antonio, including some of the best Mexican food around.

Apartments in San Antonio are, on average, fairly inexpensive. The national average for monthly rent is $950, and in San Antonio it’s less, at $871. More specifically, if you look at the MyApartmentMap data, you can see the average prices for different apartment types. A studio apartment costs $689 a month on average, a one bedroom averages $743, a two bedroom costs $963, and a three bedroom is $1321.

For a major city, San Antonio doesn’t have a great public transportation system. However, when you take into consideration that public transit isn’t very popular in Texas compared to other parts of the country, this shouldn’t be surprising. Only 3% of San Antonio residents take public transportation to work, and 90.9% of them drive a vehicle every day. Combined with the lack of an extensive public transit system is that in a study on the walkability of the largest 50 cities in the U.S., San Antonio ranked in the bottom ten. However, the city has 136 miles of bike lanes and paths, and a promising bike sharing company began operating here in 2011. Many residents ride bikes to work now, and even more will in the future.
Recreation

San Antonio has one of the best recreational programs that you can find anywhere in the country. Its Parks & Recreation department maintains a gigantic 14,000 acres of park area, which includes 238 parks and over 118 miles of trails for biking, hiking, and walking. It’s staggering how much open space the city offers to the public, and the year round warm weather here really lets you enjoy it anytime you want. The city’s famous Riverwalk is its finest outdoor attraction, as it is very beautiful and connects some of the city’s most noteworthy places, such as the Alamo, Arneson River Theatre, Marriage Island, the Tower Life Building, and the San Antonio Museum of Art, to name a few.
