The rate of violent crimes in Midland has been consistently lower than the state and national rates, with about 20% less violent crimes. Over the past few years the rate has been dropping, but so has the state and national rates for violent crimes, so the percentage has not changed. The property crime rates are slightly higher than the national rate, but are still lower than the state rate. The property crime rates for Midland, Texas, and the country have changed very little in the last few years, so residents should take precautions to make sure they are not a victim of such crimes. Future renters should look for apartments that are equipped with security systems.

Although the Midland Independent School District has struggled in the past, the district has gone from “academically unacceptable” to “academically acceptable” in the last four years. The district also recently opened the Early College High School at Midland College, which is geared toward academically gifted students and graduates students with an Associates Degree from Midland College and a High School Diploma. The 24 elementary, four middle, and two other high schools are currently working to improve their academics and have already made significant growth over the past four years.
