Dallas is the best city in the U.S., and maybe the world, for smoked meat and barbecue feasts. Check out Off the Bone Barbecue, Mike Anderson’s BBQ House, Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse, and Baker’s Ribs for a delicious, filling, and sometimes messy, dinner. Of course, Dallas has more than just steakhouses. The restaurant scene here is diverse, and you can find cuisine from nearly any culture if you look around the city.

Renters have become more and more prevalent here in Dallas throughout the years. In 2010, of all the housing units in the city, 53% were occupied by renters, and only 41% were owner occupied. In the average U.S. city, 63% of units are owned and only 30% are rented, so you can see the huge difference between Dallas and the norm. Also, apartments here are relatively cheap. For the cheapest rent among the top ten U.S. cities (population wise), Dallas ranks third.

Traffic & Commuting

Traffic & Commuting

Dallas is a city that’s dominated by drivers, as 88% of people who live here use a vehicle to commute to work every day. What’s also telling is that only 5% use public transportation. Despite the city’s efforts to promote other ways of getting around by adding bike lanes, trolleys, and buses, driving is still how most people get to work. However, the city’s light rail service has been successful, as it’s the eighth most used in the U.S. The average commuting time here is 30 minutes on average, which is four minutes longer than both state and national averages.

You can't go wrong in Dallas if you're looking for fun. Jazz, Blues, R&B, Rock, Soul, Live, Comedy shows. It's all here. One caveat, if you're a house music fan (real Chicago House), its slim pickings. You can check out the Zubar in Lower Greenville, but Techno mostly. If you want a thriving nightlife, Dallas is the place for you. For music venues, the city offers everything from rocking arena concerts at the American Airlines Center to orchestral performances at the Meyerson Symphony Center. For dancing, The Slip Inn, Sons of Hermann Hall, and The Church all provide different experiences, but there are no shortage of nightclubs here. There are also numerous excellent bars and pubs here if you want to enjoy a drink or two. Dallas is also home to some of the most successful sports franchises in the country, including the Cowboys football team and Mavericks basketball team.
