Many locals claim that Nashville has more quality restaurants than any other city in the south, and I don’t think they’re wrong. The city is known for its fried southern dishes, and restaurants such as Modell’s, Bolton’s Spicy Chicken & Fish, Arnold’s Country Kitchen, and East Side Fish serve the best comfort food in the area. I hope I haven’t scared off the vegetarians, because there are also dining options for them at the Woodlands Indian Vegetarian Cuisine and Calypso Cafe. There are also a variety of other cuisines; try the tacos at Mas Tacos, Por Favor, or the pasta at the Margot Cafe & Bar.

In Nashville, the overwhelming majority of residents use vehicles to get around. Only 1.8% of residents use public transportation, and just 2.4% of them walk. For drivers, the city is located in the center of the crossroads of three interstates (40, 24, and 65). Insterstate 440 is the bypass route that connects them. There also a number of pikes that extend from the city, most of them connecting to a neighboring town. The average commute time here is 26 minutes, which is the same as the state and national averages.

Nashville has a large student community that has been recently estimated at a population of 48,000 in the city and 74,000 in the statistical metropolitan area. Because there are so many universities and colleges in the area, city earned the nickname “The Athens of the South.” There are around 35 oost-secondary schools in Nashville, the most well-known being Vanderbilt University. Middle Tennessee State University, which has the largest student enrollment in the state, is also just 30 miles away from Nashville.

If you live here you’ll immediately realize why so many tourists come to the Music City... there’s so much southern charm to be found at any time here. The CMA Music Festival is an annual event where country’s biggest acts perform in the city. The Tennessee State Fair is another yearly event that is popular in the area. As for regularly occurring events, the Tennessee Performing Arts Center is one of the best music venues in the country, and is home to the Nashville Opera. Also, the Belcourt Theatre is another great venue. No matter what you do here, make sure you begin or end it with dinner at one of the city’s excellent restaurants.
