Locals know that there’s much more to Philly’s excellent restaurant scene than just cheesesteaks (that’s not to say that they aren’t delicious). Bibou is a tiny French restaurant with a large reputation, In Riva is a great Italian pizzeria, and Barbuzzo is an acclaimed Mediterranean restaurant. For non-European eateries, there are restaurants that serve Indonesian, Brazilian, American, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Japanese, and so on. And, of course, for a cheesesteak, check out Cosmi’s Deli or Max’s Steaks.

Public Transportation

Public Transportation

It’s very easy to get around Philadelphia, especially if you don’t have a vehicle. One out of every four residents use public transportation, which is one of the highest rates in the country. The Southern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority provides bus, train, subway, and trolley access through Philly and its suburbs. Additionally, the city was rated the fifth most walkable city in the U.S. by Walk Score in 2011. It is also a hub for train and bus services from companies such as Amtrak, Greyhound, and Peter Pan.

Apartment Costs

Apartment Costs

Kelly Nickerson - Real Estate Agent

In Philadelphia, the price tags on apartments may be a bit higher than you’re used to seeing. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re expensive. The cost of the average two bedroom apartment here is $1400 -- let’s compare this to other large cities on the east coast: the same two bedroom property averages $2590 in Boston, $3307 in New York City, and $2400 in Washington D.C. When you stack Philadelphia’s prices against these cities, they look cheap. And, if you only want a one bedroom in Philadelphia, the average price for that drops to $1804, and $1559 for the average studio apartment.

People living here in Philadelphia have access to 10,334 acres of public parkland, and 9,200 of these acres are taken up by Fairmount Park, which is the largest landscaped urban park in the world. The city is also known for its rich history, and millions of tourists visit here every year to see sites like the Liberty Bell, National Constitution Center, or Independence Hall. Residents in the city are lucky enough to enjoy these places anytime they want. Or, if history isn’t your thing, Philadelphia is home to several successful sports franchises, such as the Phillies baseball team and the Eagles football team.
