Salem is served by the Salem-Keizer Transit and the Chemeketa Area Regional Transportation System (CARTS). The Salem-Keizer Transit is a fixed-route bus system and paratransit service for the elderly and disabled. The service provides transportation for the Salem and Keizer areas and allows residents and commuters to reach the surrounding areas. CARTS provides service from Salem to Woodburn, Dallas, Silverton, and Mill City, making the commute for residents very easy. For those that want to access areas that are further from Salem, Greyhound and Amtrak both provide transportation to areas around Oregon and Southwestern Canada.
Section 8 & Affordable
Beaver State Rentals - Property Manager
Salem is extremely dedicated to helping all of its citizens afford housing whether it is in the form of government funded housing, section 8 housing vouchers, or privately owned units that provide affordable rentals. I am unsure if the city is still issuing section 8 vouchers, but you can contact the Salem Housing Authority in order to find out if you are eligible. Salem is so dedicated to making affordable housing available that there are currently 22 rentals that are accepting section 8 vouchers. These 22 rentals consist of single apartments, apartments in complexes, and rental homes. The rent is usually around $500, but some of the nicer and larger rentals are around $700 for the month.
