Norman was recently rated the 6th best small city in the United States by CNN Money Magazine based on a number of criteria, including housing within the city. Adding to the renter friendliness of the city is the high percentage (40%) of residencies that are renter occupied in Norman, especially when compared to the surrounding areas. Although the rent is about $100 higher on average compared to the surrounding areas, Norman is one of the largest cities in Oklahoma, offering residents a perfect mix of rural and urban settings.

The Norman Public School System consists of 15 elementary, four middle, and two high schools. Norman High School was ranked one of the top high schools by Newsweek in 2009 and boasts some of the best academics in the state and has a special education program, and advanced course program, and a dual enrollment program. The dual enrollment program allows students to take courses at the local universities upon completion of prerequisite courses at Norman High. Norman North High School received the Blue Ribbon award of excellence in 2008 and is known for their excellent Fine Arts program.
