White Plains is a bit far from New York City, but commuting there every day from here is still a possibility. If you’re driving, once you get on 9A it’s a straight shot to the city, but with traffic it could take an over an hour. Fortunately, you can always take the train into the city and not have to worry about traffic. Yonkers is much closer to White Plains, it’s only 15 miles away by car. White Plains is also closer to the Connecticut border than most of Yonker’s suburbs; it’s just eight miles from it.

White Plains didn’t get its name from the snowfall in the area, but maybe it should have: it has the second most annual snowfall in downstate New York, at 27.7 inches, spread out over 11 days. As you may have guessed, the winters are freezing -- though it’s not as bad as New England. The temperatures here stay in the 20s, or 30s if you’re lucky. On cold days they can sink to the teens. Summers are very humid, which makes it feel like it’s in the 90s when the the temperature is only in the 70s or 80s. Spring and fall are, well, some years they’ll be warm and pleasant and other years cold or rainy, you never know.
