Syracuse has access to three different Amtrak lines, which connects residents to places like Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, and New York City. Similarly, Greyhound and Trailways buses also serve the area. Most of the public transit in Syracuse is supplied by the CNYRTA in the form of buses. These buses take residents around the city and to suburban areas. Syracuse ranks 12th nationwide for the most pedestrian commuters; walking is very popular here in the spring, summer, and fall. Additionally, there have been proposals to add a monorail system and an aerial tramway to Syracuse’s transportation infrastructure. However, none of these plans are finalized yet.

If you’ve heard of Syracuse before, it’s probably because of the city’s university. Syracuse University has over 20,000 students enrolled in its programs. The school also has a large presence in the city because it’s one of the top employers, and is affiliated with research facilities and other schools in the area. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that their basketball team also has a huge local following, and though Syracuse doesn’t have a professional sports team, the college sports more than make up for it. I wouldn’t say that Syracuse is necessarily a “college town” like Gainesboro, FL or Chapel Hill, NC, but there definitely is a strong population of college students here.
