There are plenty of restaurants in Westfield; most of the nicer ones serving American fare. Jeffrey’s of Westfield is popular, and unlike most restaurants in the area, has a license to serve liquor and a full bar. Isabella’s Bistro is popular for the same types of food (meatloaf, short ribs, some seafood and pastas) and similar pricing, around $20 a plate, which is in the ballpark for most expensive restaurants in the area. Chez Catherine’s is a French restaurant, perhaps a bit more pricey than the lot, but not by much, and the best for fine dining. For a quick bite, Cod Almighty Chippery serves inexpensive British style seafood dishes. Of course, there are plenty of quick pizza places, some local favorites are Gennaro’s and Casa di Pasta. There are plenty more options in the area; these are all good places to start.
Public Transportation

Westfield serves as a very convenient location for commuters. The city’s position and subsequent schedule on New Jersey Transit’s Raritan Valley Line provides constant access to travel to Penn Station in Newark. This commute takes only about 20 minutes, and allows connecting transport to Penn Station in New York City in a total time of only about 50 minutes. The Raritan Line serves Westfield several times during both morning and evening rush hours, as well as regularly throughout the day. New Jersey Transit bus line 113 also provides service to New York City, travelling to Port Authority Bus Terminal seven days weekly, with a travel time of approximately one hour. Bus lines 114 and 117 also travel to Port Authority during peak service hours, taking Route 22 for a commute time of only around 45 minutes. Bus line 59 provides local service, travelling to Plainfield and Newark regularly. The Olympia Trails bus also travels into Manhattan twice daily during peak hours Monday through Friday. Newark Liberty International Airport is the most convenient for Westfield, which is an easy train destination, and takes only around 20 minutes driving on Route 22.

However, that amount of people make up only about 18% of Westfield, with the population majority of 82% being owners. Also, when compared with seven surrounding cities, Westfield showed the second-highest rental rates in the area. A one-bedroom rental typically starts at around $1500. The unusually low renters-to-owners ratio combined with high costs could render Westfield problematic for some, but it remains a practical location nonetheless.

Westfield Parks and Recreation Department organizes activities throughout the year for residents. They sponsor sports teams year round, as well as summer camps. They also offer day camps both on the playground or in the department’s community room, including some exciting and atypical options like baking, legos, aviation, fashion, science, magic, dance and more. There are also some yearly special events, such as the Daddy-Daughter Dance in the spring, 1 and 5 mile Fun Run Fundraisers for the Drug and Alcohol-Free Teen Programs, Holiday Concert in December featuring local bands, and the Summer Concert Series weekly during the months of June and July.
