Plainfield has two train stations on the New Jersey Transit rails that run the Raritan Valley Line (colored orange on the New Jersey Transit maps). One is located centrally downtown, and one just east of downtown in the Nertherwood section of Plainfield. The Raritan Valley Line provides connections to Penn Station in New York City through Newark. Another train runs connects to the Port-Authority Trans-Hudson system, connecting to Hoboken as well as Manhattan and the Financial District. Unfortunately, the majority of stops on the Raritan Valley Line are not wheelchair accessible, contrary to most of the entire Transit. Plainfield’s stop is, as well as Newark Penn Station, Union, Cranford, Westfield and Somerville. This may need to be considered when planning your commute. New Jersey Transit also provides bus services in Plainfield; routes 819 and 822 provide local service, 59, 65 and 66 provide service to Newark, and routes 113 and 114 provide transport to the Port Authority bus terminal in Midtown Manhattan. Newark Liberty International Airport is the closest and most convenient to Plainfield, about a thirty minute commute.

When considering nightlife in Plainfield, there aren’t an abundance of options. However, there is a place for every type of night; pool, dancing, or sports bar environment. Two local favorite hot spot are Hugo’s and Chez Maree. Both are a club environments, with house music or hip-hop djs at night. The early evenings are relaxed more relaxed at Hugo’s with great happy hour deals and special events such as karaoke on Tuesday nights. Billard’s Stix is the local pool hall, and Latino Heat is a sports bar and grill, both of which are popular spots for a good time.
