Jersey Rentals - Property Manager

Paterson is extremely renter friendly. The ratio of renters to owners in the city is 65% to 32% respectively, a ratio that is almost exactly backwards to the national average, typically showing higher rates of ownership. Renting rates in New Jersey state on average are also opposite these statistics. Costs for renting in Paterson begin around $800 for a studio, $1,000 for one bedroom, and $1,200 and up from there. Compared to rates in surrounding cities, Paterson proved to be low for the area, with plenty of great options for renters.

Paterson School District includes grades k-12, as well as the Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology. Paterson is one of 31 Abbott districts, now referred to as SDA districts based on the requirement that the state (Schools Development Agency) cover all costs for school building and renovation. The changes were based on negative outcomes regarding students grades, tests scores, and graduation rates. However, as of the 2011 school year, all Paterson high schools were made into theme schools, focusing on specific career paths with the hope of more dedication leading to better future outcomes. Passaic County Community College is located in Paterson, offering associate’s degrees as well as certificate programs. The college is also host to the state’s annual robotics competition, and has been recognized often for its poetry program.

The Recreation Department of Paterson has a strong desire to bring the community together, stating “By adopting imaginative ideas, we can begin the regeneration of our community”. The department sponsors sporting teams for the youth, including basketball, soccer, baseball, football, tennis and boxing. They also offer swim lessons and track and field training. They also offer summer sports, science, and day camps. The city’s non-traditional programs include an evening homework center, lecturers, arts and craft programs, field trips, and open gym nights. For senior citizens, Paterson offers a “threads for life” crocheting program, arts and crafts and various day trips. To unite the community as a whole, Paterson holds a Performing Arts Festival yearly, a ‘Fit in 30’ exercise class, an annual 5k marathon, and movie nights in the Eastside Park. During the holidays, the city offers candy distribution as well as dinner for the needy. The Paterson Museum is a popular site to visit, holding exhibitions of archaeology, mineralogy and local history, and at only $2 for adult admission, a reason to visit.
