Elizabeth has some of the highest numbers of transit ridership of all United States cities. It is absolutely a commuter city, not only of New York City, but also of Newark. The city of Elizabeth has two train stations, the Elizabeth Station (also referred to as the Broad Street Elizabeth or the Midtown Station), and the North Elizabeth Station, both servicing the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Lines. Collectively the lines provide service to Penn Station in New York, Hoboken, Newark, Trenton, Bay Head and Long Branch, as well as many cities and towns between, and also providing connection options. Bus routes 111-113, and 115 from Elizabeth provides service to Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan, routes 24, 40, 59, and 62 provide service to Newark, while routes 26, 52, and 56-58 provide local service. Public transportation is available and convenient in Elizabeth.

They have sidewalk sales with proceeds going to the improvement of certain districts in need, financial planning day, free pet vaccination days, school supply giveaway drives, and more.
