There are plenty of options when looking for a school for a kindergarten through high school student in Edison. The township contains two public high schools, Edison High School in the north end, containing in its zone six elementary schools, and J.P.Stevens High School at the south end, containing five elementary schools within its zone. Edison also has the Middlesex County Academy for Mathematics, Science and Engineering, perhaps grooming for the town’s next namesake, as the school offers free admission to all residents, based on their grades and testing. There are ten other private high schools in Edison. Due to the large Chinese population in the city, within a few of the schools, including Edison High, Chinese is taught to students. Middlesex Community College is a public, two-year college in the town, which is also home to Rutgers University, located on the former Kilmer Military Base.

They hold a before and after school care program for children of working parents, as well as a seven week playground program including athletics, trips and games. For teens, the centers offer different activities: sports leagues, a relaxing teen center, trips to parks and concerts as well as arts and craft classes. Even the adults can benefit from the centers, as they hold gyms as well as classes exclusively for the adults. Adult basketball and softball teams are available as well as musical and arts classes.
