The Garden State Parkway serves and has an area located within Bloomfield. The ease of access to the highway facilitates travel in the area, as this is a major highway offering convenient entry in both directions as well as connecting routes to other important roadways. The Essex County Toll Plaza is located in Bloomfield, as well as two service areas. Public transportation is also available and easily accessible. Bloomfield has three train stations, Bloomfield Station and Watsessing Avenue Station both serving the Montclair-Boonton Line with service to Hoboken, and the Midtown Direct Line to Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan. The Grove St. Station provides service on the Newark City Subway to Penn Station in Newark. Many of New Jersey Transit bus lines provide service to Newark, as well as local service, and the Go Bus route 28 provides nearly constant service to Newark Liberty International Airport, which is just seven and a half miles from Bloomfield.

Bloomfield Public School District serves grades kindergarten through twelve. Bloomfield has eight elementary schools, which serve students in kindergarten through eighth grade: Berkeley, Brookdale, Carteret, Demarest, Fairview, Franklin, Oak View, and Watsessing. Bloomfield Middle School accommodate grades seven and eight, and Bloomfield High School grades nine through twelve. Forest Glen School is for students in grades seven through twelve with special requirements, offering individualized programs. Bloomfield Technical High School is also public, and offers academic lessons as well as occupational instruction. Bloomfield Technical was awarded the Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence in the 2009/2010 school year, the highest honor given by the U.S. Department of Education. St.Thomas the Apostle School is a private Catholic School located in Bloomfield, serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade. As for after high school, Bloomfield College is available. It is a liberal arts college associated with the Presbyterian Church, which has around 2,000 students per term.

The Bloomfield Department of Recreation offers programs for all ages and many areas of interest. The department offers many of the activities you might expect, including baseball, softball, soccer, football, and cheerleading, as well as some unexpected ones, such as wiffle ball, chess, magic, and introduction to rock music instruments. Bloomfield is very interested in keeping the arts thriving in New Jersey and in their community. For that reason, they have organized the Bloomfield Arts League, which offers classes to adults and children from beginner to advanced in many mediums including watercolors, oil painting, pastel, drawing and more. The Bloomfield Music Federation is another way the township supports the arts, encouraging residents of all ages to explore their talents and interests by taking lessons and joining the town band. The Recreation Department also holds events throughout the year, such as frequent concerts in the park, holiday celebrations, and town picnics.
