Restaurants
Henry Stancil - Property Manager
Dover has many great restaurants. Whether you are looking for quick takeout, casual dining, or something a little more fancy, food seekers in Dover will are sure to find something to satisfy their pallets. A few recommendations based on personal experience include:
Fast Food: Head up to the "Miracle Mile" where you will find McDonalds, Wendys, and a Subway and on the healthier side of things; Panera.
Casual Dining: Those looking for a casual sit down meal should try Cartelli's Bar and Grill or Kelly's Row. Both establishments are centrally located in Downtown Dover and both offer quality food in a casual atmosphere.
For those looking for something a little more upscale, try one of the following: Christopher's on Third St, The Chop Shop(some of the best dry aged steaks you can find) or Blue Latitudes(located in the center of town).
Finally, everyone's favorite; Pizza: While Dover is home to a half a dozen or so places that specialize in pizza, there really is only one place to go: La Festa Brick and Brew. La Festa's brick oven pizza is voted one of the best in the Seacoast year in and year out. Don't forget to ask for an order of garlic knots, these are amazing.
Public Transportation
Henry Stancil - Property Manager
Dover has some of the finest public transportation in the state of NH courtesy of the COAST. COAST, which manages buses that service a great deal of Strafford County, has provided over 10 million passengers a ride to and from their destination since their inception in the early 1980's. For a small fee, public transportation seekers can board and ride the COAST bus to work, shopping destinations or to the local universities.
In addition to the COAST, Dover is also a stop for Amtrak's Downeaster train. The Downeaster provides riders with transportation from Portland, ME all the way to Boston, MA.
Pet Friendly
Henry Stancil - Property Manager
While Dover requires pets to remain leased when not on private property, the city is still considered "pet friendly" by many people's standards. Not only are there parks to walk your dogs at while leased, Dover is also home to Longhill Dog Park. Longhill is a dog friendly park that is fenced in, they do not require leashes. On a nice weekend day, I have seen many dog lovers hanging out.
Renter Friendly
Theodore Smith - Landlord
Dover is renter friendly by my standards. There are typically plenty of rentals available on any given day and in my years helping renters, I have never heard "there are just not enough rentals to go around." With that said, you will still need to spend time looking and plan your rental search accordingly.
Traffic & Commuting
Henry Stancil - Property Manager
Getting around Dover is rather easy. Most residents rely on their cars and traffic is not really an issue. At times the Downtown area can become congested, this usually occurs during business hours due to the areas proximity to shopping and dining. Areas outside of the Downtown area are not prone to traffic and your commute should not be affected.
Section 8 & Affordable
Henry Stancil - Property Manager
Apartments in Dover, NH, on average, are considered affordable. This is especially true if you compare the rental prices to communities closer to the Seacoast. On average, renters should expect to pay around $800 for a one bedroom, with prices ranging closer to $1200 for a three bedroom apartment.
Dover is also very accommodating to those in search of rent controlled, section 8 or subsidized housing. The Dover Housing Authority(website: http://doverhousingauthority.org/ ) offers help to those in need of rental assistance.
