Renter Friendly

Renter Friendly

Anne May Chesters - Real Estate Agent

Charlotte is very renter friendly -- of all the properties on the market in the city, 56% are for rent, and only 25% are for sale. This means that there are much more options for renter housing in the market. Another great reason to rent here is the city’s economy. Most people don’t know that Charlotte has second largest banking center in the U.S., only New York City’s is larger. The city is home to Wells Fargo, the headquarters for Bank of America, and ten Fortune 500 companies. As business booms, the city grows: currently there are over a dozen skyscrapers either being planned, built, or recently completed in downtown Charlotte. This means more apartments to choose from in a city that already has a variety of them available.

Traffic & Commuting

Traffic & Commuting

If you live in Charlotte, be prepared to drive a lot. 91% of people who live here drive their own vehicle to work every day, which drastically outnumbers the 2% who take public transportation to work. However, this ratio probably won’t be as lopsided as interest in public transit grows and the light rail expands its service. Aside from the rail, the city also offers bus and shuttle services. The commuting time for the average person in Charlotte is 28 minutes.

The district that operates the public schools in Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, is the 20th largest in the nation and has been recognized for the academic progress its schools have shown. For example, in 2009 it won the NAEP awards, which honors the top urban schools in the country. There are around 130,000 students served by the district in over 150 schools. The Charlotte metropolitan area is also home to a number of post-secondary institutions, the largest being University of North Carolina--Charlotte with around 25,000 students.

Recreation

Recreation

There are around 20 museums in Charlotte, ranging from the NASCAR Hall of Fame to the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. If you want to spend less time roaming galleries and enjoy a theater show or symphony instead, Charlotte has around ten performing arts centers. The city is also home to two professional sports franchises, the Carolina Panthers of the NFL and the Charlotte Bobcats of the NBA. There are plenty of great places to spend a night on the town here, as well as excellent restaurants to start the night, and bars to finish it.
