The public transportation system in Jackson leaves something to be desired. There is a bus service, which can be helpful, but it doesn’t operate on Sundays or during the evening. Amtrak provides routes to New Orleans with stops in between, and the northbound service from N.O. stops in Jackson and goes to Chicago. This is convenient if you want to travel far from the city, or live somewhere in the suburbs where the train stops, but as a means to get to work it’s not very practical. Almost all the residents in Jackson drive cars to their job every day.

There isn’t a better time to be a Jacksonian than on days where there are awesome events going on. The community holds a lot of fun festivals and parades every year. Some of the events that celebrate the city’s diversity are the Irish CelticFest Mississippi, the Festival Latino, and OUTober, which is an event held by gays and lesbians in the area. Some of my other favorites are the Mississippi State Fair (who could hate an event that serves funnel cake?) and the Crossroads Film Festival. There is definitely a sense of community in Jackson that you will notice the moment you move into your place.
