Edina is one of the safest cities in Minnesota. The city has exhibited a decline in crime over the past ten years, and in 2009 it was reported that their violent crime rate was lower than the national average by 87%, and lower than Minnesota’s average by by 78%. Their property crime rate was lower than the national average by 32% and lower than Minnesota’s average by 22%. In 2009, there were only 24 violent crimes, and it’s projected that in 2012 there will only be 21. These are very low statistics considering that there are nearly 50,000 people in Edina.

Edina’s public education is run by Independent School District 273, and has one of the finest public school systems in the entire country. They were listed in the 2005 Newsweek as one of the top 100 schools in academic proficiency, and on America’s Promise Alliance’s 100 Best Communities for Young People because it has reduced dropout rates in their schools. 98% of Edina high school students graduate, 85% go on to college, and 85% complete college within five years of their high school graduation. In addition to their prized public school system, Edina is also home to three private schools.
