The most recent US Census report on Lewiston was pretty exciting for me. I encourage clients who are dead set on buying to at least consider renting, because personally I think it’s a much better option, and now I have some stats to help me present my case. The Census reported that there are 7,353 owner occupied housing units in Lewiston, and 7,780 renter occupied units. I really think that Lewiston is renter friendly, and with the right agent (hint, hint) you can find an excellent rental. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a bachelor or have a family, or want to live in an apartment or a house, the rental market here has many options.

Lewiston may be best known for being home to one of the most elite small colleges in the country, Bates College. It was ranked #21 best Liberal Arts college in the country by US News in 2012, and has many notable alumni, such as Bobby Kennedy. Lewiston is also home to Kaplan University and a University of Southern Maine campus. The Lewiston School Department operates the public education from grades kindergarten to twelfth, and their public schools are generally well-received by the community. However, some parents enroll their children in private school, which Lewiston has a few of as well.
