These routes provide residents access to areas around Towson and Baltimore. The MTA also offers a light rail service from stops near Towson to downtown Baltimore and BWI Airport.

Also, the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services has its headquarters in Towson, with a state prison attached to the headquarters.

Towson is part of the Baltimore County Public Schools district, with the Board of Education Headquarters located in Towson. There are five elementary schools in the area: Forge, Hampton, Riderwood, Rodgers, Stoneleigh, and West Towson. These elementary schools feed into Loch Raven High School and Towson High School, which received ratings of 10 from GreatSchools. Although there are five elementary schools, every school is currently over capacity. Along with the public schools, the Ridge Ruxton School is a special education school for Baltimore County for children ages three to 21. There are also a number of private schools in the Towson area, including: Immaculate Conception School (PK-8), Immaculate Heart of Mary (PK-8), Loyola Blakefield (6-12 boys only), Notre Dame Preparatory (6-12 girls only), and many others.

The Towson Marketplace is a large shopping center that houses large commercial stores and smaller local stores. The Recher Theatre, located in the downtown area, host concerts for local and national venues. The Towson Center and Unitas Stadium both house nearby college sporting events and other non-athletic events in the area. Currently, one of the nation’s largest movie theater companies, Cinemark, is building a large movie complex in Towson, set to open in the fall of 2014.
