The cost of renting in Chelsea is cheap compared with rates in other parts of Boston. The price of an average two bedroom apartment here is $1590, which is much less than the same space in Boston ($2461 for two bedrooms), Somerville ($2119), Malden ($1800), and especially Cambridge ($2805). However, there are also less expensive places nearby -- Everett ($1400), Revere ($1446), and Melrose ($1480).

One out of every four residents in Chelsea take public transportation to work every day because Boston has a great mass transit system. Chelsea is connected to Boston by both commuter rail (Newbury/Rockport Line) and the T (Blue Line). It’s easier to take one of these services and not drive, but if you want to, you can take the four mile (to downtown Boston) drive over the North Washington Street (or the Charlestown) Bridge. This drive sounds short, but can be a pain in rush hour traffic.
