New Orleans -- or actually, Louisiana as a whole -- is known for its incredible restaurant, especially those that specialize in Southern or Cajun dishes. And Metairie is a New Orleans community that has some of the best offerings for these types of food. The Creole Grill & Bar, the R&O Pizza Place, Chef Ron’s Gumbo Stop, and Zeke’s Restaurant will serve up some of the best Cajun food you’ve ever had in your life, and with some southern hospitality too. However, don’t think that these are the only types of restaurants around. If you don’t like Cajun, it’s not a big deal, there are plenty of other cuisines to keep any foodie happy.

The Jefferson Parish Public School System has jurisdiction over the public schools in Metairie, and there are around 20 of them. It’s pretty surprising that there are actually seven more private schools, 27, than public. Most of the private schools have a religious affiliation; the majority of them are Catholic. Metairie also has two magnet schools, which are institutions with focused, or specialized, curricula. These two, the Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies and the Patrick F. Taylor Science and Math Academy, have received great praise -- if you start renting in the area and have kids, you should check them out.
