Baton Rouge may not be as well-known as New Orleans, but the capital of Louisiana has a lot going for it. The culture here is just as distinct as The Big Easy’s, with flourishing visual and performance art scenes, important historical and cultural districts, and annual events like Mardi Gras. Of course, there are the career opportunities that come with the city being the capital, and some of the best sporting events in the South courtesy of LSU. This is a great city to rent in, and with the market opening up, there is a lot of variety to choose from.

Even though Baton Rouge is the capital of the state, most Southerners connect the city with its famous school, Louisiana State University, or more specifically, its football program. LSU has almost 30,000 students, the majority of which are in Baton Rouge. Because of this, there’s a strong college community in the city, and while I wouldn’t go as far as to call it a “college town” like others do, the college definitely has a presence. Additionally, there are a total of 25 universities or post-secondary campuses in the city.
