Stonegate, the Glenlake Club, and Fordham Glen are a few pet friendly buildings in Glendale Heights, so if you plan on settling down with an animal you should at least browse their listings. There are also a bunch of individual properties -- that is, they aren’t part of a complex and are usually user uploaded onto the internet -- that are pet friendly, or have a pet policy that is negotiable depending on your animal. For example, most landlords will agree to let you live with a dog if it’s smaller, but larger dogs aren’t usually treated as favorably. That’s why when you browse pet friendly listings, you’ll see that a lot of buildings allow cats and small dogs, but not big dogs. After the unemployment rate in Glendale Heights dipped to a decade-low of 3.2% in October 2006, it has escalated to historic highs. Throughout the village’s history, the unemployment rate here has consistently been in single digits. Then, in March 2009, it hit 10%. It peaked at 11.5% in June 2009; this isn’t nearly as bad as what happened in other parts of the country, with some unemployment rates hitting 20%, but for a village that typically has a stable economy it was tough. Since then, the rate has fluctuated, but is currently at the lowest it’s been in the young decade: 8%. We’ll see what the rest of 2012 has in store for us, but in the past year I’ve seen a lot of local companies start hiring again, and a lot of jobs opening up as well. Glendale Heights’ economy hasn’t yet fully recovered, but I expect it to do so in the upcoming years.
