One of the best parts of renting in Hawaii is the excellent and authentic restaurants. Kailua has some of the best food outside of Honolulu. There is a vast selection of Asian restaurants especially, which is represented by everything from Korean to Japanese to Thai and so on. A certain Hawaiian influence can be found in every restaurant here, but there are also fantastic restaurants that serve up traditional Hawaiian meals. And, of course, there are plenty of excellent American restaurants, some being traditional and others modern.

Because of Hawaii’s beautiful year-round weather, you’ll probably want to spend a lot of time outside if you rent in Kailua. There are four publicly maintained parks here that offer plenty of recreational amenities. But the true beauty here lies in Kailua Beach. In the late ‘90s, Stephen Leatherman (nicknamed Dr. Beach for his famous annual rankings of U.S. beaches) named it the best beach in the U.S., then retired it from future rankings. It’s two and a half miles long, and is a great place for surfing, wakeboarding, and kitesurfing (because of trade winds). Even President Obama loves it here, as he rented an ocean house here three years in a row from 2008-2010.
