Although Aurora offers the Grandview Dog Park and appears to be very pet friendly, there are many regulations that must be followed when owning a pet. American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers are all banned from Aurora and owners of these dogs are subject to fines, impoundment of their animal, and a court appearance. There is also a limit on the number of pets allowed, depending on the species: three adult dogs, five adult cats, three ferrets, and two rabbits and livestock may only be kept in designated town zones.

Aurora offers a wide array of facilities for public use, making for a lively public scene year-round. The city has seven public golf courses that range from beginner to advanced level and offer lessons. Aurora Reservoir and Quincy Reservoir offer a place for residents to fish and used non-motorized watercraft. Each of the reservoirs hosts a number of fishing tournaments and other fishing events. The Grandview Dog Park is a five acre dog park equipped with drinking water station and a separate small dog area. Aurora also offers an extensive trail system with trails for walkers, runners, dogs, cyclists, and horses. The Fox Theatre is a local theatre that puts on a number of shows each year and a number of other classes in the arts are open to residents as well. For nightlife, there are a number of local bars, pubs, and tasting rooms in Aurora. From relaxing drinks by a fireplace, to jazz clubs, to sports bars, Aurora has a unique nightlife that encompass a number of culturally diverse experiences.
