Walnut’s public education is without a doubt one of the greatest things about living here, and is a large reason why it was the highest ranked Californian town on CNN Money’s list of America’s best small towns in 2009 and 2011. Walnut schools average a 9 out of 10 rating on GreatSchools based on their state test scores, and three schools earned the rare 10 out of 10 rating. The administration at the schools are very involved and care a lot, and the kids are engaged. There are also a number of great private schools in Walnut too.

Officially, Walnut has a “Mediterranean” climate, which means that the summers are steamy hot and the winters are relatively warm. The average highs for summer months hang around the mid-80s and low 90s, peaking at 92 in August. Lows in the winter usually stay around the mid-40s, which is much warmer than winter in most other parts of the country. Almost all of annual precipitation occurs in the winter: there’s usually around 15 inches of rain from November-March, and only 2.5 inches fall from April-October.
