These four companies provide around 8,000 jobs alone, and there is countless more retail and service industry within the city. The unemployment rate in Torrance, as of 2010, was 4.5%, which is considerably lower than the state as well as national average. The Attic-A teen center in Torrance provides a place for those attending Torrance as well as 6 other high schools to hang out and participate in events such as pool tournaments, movie nights and ski/snowboard excursions. The city also sponsors youth and adult sports leagues, classes including dance of many types, acting, art, swimming and fitness, as well as clubs including martial arts training in Aikido, Naginata, and Judo, Kendo and fencing, dog obedience, and artist’s and craftsmen’s guilds. These are just what the city sponsors; there are also museums, bowling alleys, dance studios, and more entertainment throughout Torrance.
