The city also holds informative and helpful events for residents, such as a youth job and career exploration fair, heroin prevention meetings, and homeless assistance events. In 2010, the number of jobs in Simi Valley was reported to be 90,460, with only 62,096 positions filled. 69% of Simi Valley residents were employed, 5% were unemployed, and 26% were decidedly not in the labor force. Of the large number of jobs available, 82% would be considered white collar, with 30% of the total being in the sales and office field. The median household income reported in 2010 was $88,406, while 10% of the population were below the poverty line. This represents a significant economic gap in the population. There is plenty of industry in the city though, with Bank of America and the Simi Valley School District providing over 7,000 jobs alone. AeroVironment and Milgard Manufacturing offer almost 1,000 positions, and aside from the large industrial positions there are countless service and retail opportunities within Simi Valley.
