As San Jose grows, its restaurant scene also becomes richer and more diverse. As with the rest of California, there are fantastic Mexican restaurants here, but there’s also Ethiopian (Walia Ethiopian Cuisine), French (La Foret), Asian Fusion (Creasian), Cambodian (Chez Sovan), and
Thai (Thai Spice), to name a few. Of course, it would be an oversight not to mention that San Francisco is just a short drive north, and it consistently ranks in the top ten best foodie cities in the entire world. But, either way, whether you stay local in San Jose or go to San Francisco, the Bay Area’s restaurants don’t disappoint.

San Jose was the second safest city with a population of over 500,000, with only Honolulu ahead of it, in 2009 based on FBI crime reports. Today it’s still considered to be one of the safest cities, and a great place to raise a family. The chance of being affected by a violent crime is only three per one thousand residents, and 24 per one thousand for a property crime.

San Jose is just 48 miles south of San Francisco, and is 41 miles south of Oakland. If you want to get to the ocean from the city, that will only take 30-40 minutes as well. To get to work every day, you won’t have to go very far if you are interested in the technology field -- San Jose is considered by many to be the capital of Silicon Valley. It is also just 10 miles from computer giant Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, CA. The majority of residents drive a vehicle to work every day (only a small number take public transportation), and the average commute time one way is around a half hour.

The recreational system in San Jose is incredibly extensive. There are over a hundred parks maintained by the city, as well as 30 trails for jogging, walking, biking, or just enjoying nature. Also, 19 community gardens and three golf courses. The list goes on, as do the options when you leave the city. The ocean is just a short drive away, as are the hills and mountains that are scattered throughout the area, which feature a ton of trails and wildlife to enjoy. You will definitely enjoy the year round warm weather here in San Jose with the amenities it offers.
