Most students in Pico Rivera attend schools in the El Rancho Unified School District, but some fall within the Montebello Unified School District. The El Rancho Unified School District consists of seven elementary, three middle, and three high schools. The Montebello Unified School District is larger than the El Rancho District and many of the schools in the district are highly acclaimed. The Schurr High School has been on Newsweek’s “Top Public High Schools” list and the music department and student newspaper are nationally recognized.

Pico Rivera offers a number of parks and community resources for its residents. The city has nine parks and playgrounds with more than 120 acres of land for public facilities. The city also has 18 athletic fields, two gyms, four community centers, a skatepark, multiple swimming facilities, and a nine hole golf course open to golfers and any community member.
